Entrepreneurs are known to be specific about two things - time and money. Juggling many things at a time becomes an occupational hazard, sometimes including publishing books, speaking at conferences as well as running highly successful businesses. So, how do entrepreneurs manage all of that? There are certain techniques some of the most successful entrepreneurs employ to be as efficient as possible 


  • Find your entrepreneurial golden hours
  • The greatest perk of being an entrepreneur is being your own boss, and along with that comes the freedom to set your own schedule. Now, that doesn’t mean you can take hours off to watch football games, for example, but as much as entrepreneurs are alike in terms of work ethic, they may differ in a key aspect: their most productive hours. So, if you’re a morning person, you should manage your schedule accordingly. The key is to findyour golden hours and organize your schedule around that. 


  • Prioritize your to-do list 
  • Having clarity in what you need to do before the next day starts gives you a head start for the upcoming day. This in turn greatly boosts productivity. You can do this by setting aside some time to identify the most important things to complete, be it the night before or the morning of. Knowing in advance what needs to be done significantly enhances focus and concertation. 


  • Get in the habit of taking notes 
  • There are times when we all have an idea or thought that seems to shake us up but before we know it, due to the hullabaloo of life, we seem to lose that idea. These are times when we need to pause and jot our thoughts down, be it manually or digitally. It’s a very popular technique as far as entrepreneurs are concerned, with Richard Branson, for example, preferring notepads to anything digital.


  • Leave your ego at the door and delegate
  • All of us, to some degree, end up biting off more than we can chew. Now, entrepreneurs typically do end up completing all their tasks due to how used to multitasking they are, but maybe not as well as they could’ve if they focused on how to get less done rather than more. By delegating work, you can get a lot more done in the day, ultimately allowing your business to function more efficiently.


  • Reduce time on electronic devices 
  • It’s very easy to get distracted if you’re checking your text messages, emails, or simply browsing your Facebook feed. One minute you’re working and the next thing you know, you’ve wasted the last half hour. To get around this, set specific times to use your devices. Elon Musk, for instance, checks emails as soon as he wakes up in the morning and dedicates the first half hour only to checking emails and replying to the important ones. This allows him and will help you to reduce time wasted in constantly checking emails throughout the day as the second you think you’re done, another notification will pop up and you’ll be catering to it as well. 

    Learn to operate on “airplane mode,” through which phone usage is as limited as possible. Another such tip is to turn off all your devices at least an hour before you sleep, as that will allow you to sleep without worry and get the REM sleep, which again will boost your productivity.


  • Say ‘No’
  • To improve productivity and output, an entrepreneur must know how to say ‘no’. Grant Cardone of Instagram immediately decides whether he’s in to do the task or not, and if the decision is a yes, he devotes all his energy to it. Boundary setting and having a clear view of your goals really does wonders. If the task doesn’t align with your long term goals or has a higher opportunity cost than it does benefits, perhaps it’s best to forego it. Learn to respect your time. 


  • Learn to take care of your body
  • Amidst all of the demands of your work obligations, there is barely any time left to yourself, making it very likely that brain food and exercise are overlooked. The aim of an entrepreneur shouldn’t be to survive till the next day but make the most out of every day. To do that, you need to make the most of your intelligence and creativity, and nothing impacts that more than a bad diet and lack of exercise. Make use of foods like a warm bowl of oatmeal to boost the serotonin and add fruits rich in vitamin C to cut down on the stress-causing hormones like cortisol. Even twenty minutes of exercise boosts serotonin greatly and increases your energy levels by a great margin.
